NEW SCREENING FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND VIRUSES

Shouldice Hospital is now gathering information pertaining to infectious diseases or viruses from all patients applying for surgery or attending for examination. We are also implementing precautionary methods aimed at preventing the spread of these conditions within our hospital, which currently and historically enjoys one of the lowest infections rates of any hospital in the world. Conditions currently screened for include: MRSA, ( community condition often associated with retirement homes and hospitals), H1N1 Swine Flu ( a virus associated with pigs and recently associated with Mexico), and various AROs ( Antibiotic Resistant Organisms).

Patients will be asked upon attending at Shouldice Hospital to complete a short questionnaire prior to admission or examination. Distant patients, booking surgery remotely by medical questionnaire, will answer the same questions on a provided form and submit this with their medical questionnaire.
